Delta Academy/GEMS
will meet 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month
from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
at the Willie B. Johnson Recreation Center
located at 1225 Willowdell Dr. Dallas, TX 75243
 The
Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a national program sponsored by Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to enhance the future of young girls as they
approach the next millennium. The academy is designed for girls between the
ages of 11 and 14 who demonstrate the potential to succeed, but may not have
the necessary support systems. The program seeks to remedy some of the
deficiencies faced by involving the young girls in supervised and structured
experiences that will help them grow up to be productive citizens.
Delta GEMS: Growing & Empowering Myself
Successfully is a national program sponsored by Delta Sigma
 Theta
Sorority, Inc. to provide the framework to perform specific tasks to
actualize the dreams of adolescent girls and the development of a can do
attitude. The program is designed for girls between the ages of 15-18. The
goals of the program are to instill the need to excel academically; to
provide tools that will enable our girls to sharpen and enhance their skills
to achieve high levels of academic success; to assist our girls in proper
goal setting and planning for their futures – high school and beyond; and to
create compassionate, caring and community minded young women by actively
involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.
Delta GEMS will also have a strong focus on career planning, college
preparation, and community service.
The culminating event for all Delta Academies is the Presidential Academy.
Through an essay from Delta Academy participants and recommendations from
the local chapters, members of Delta Academy may have the opportunity to
participate in the Presidential Academy. The two-day event, usually held in
conjunction with Delta Sigma Theta National Convention, is designed to
expose the participants to the best that Delta has to offer in the areas of
Scholarship, Service, and Sisterhood.
For Deltas, the best part of the Academies is the promise they hold for
enhancing the lives of our future leaders. The Presidential Academy is a
pledge to the participants that women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have
neither forgotten from whence we come nor lost sight of what it takes to
move us into the future.
Delta Academy meets twice per month on
