Arts & letters

The National Arts and Letters Commission was established on September 24, 1973, under the presidency of 15th National President Lillian Pierce Benbow. Dr. Jeanne L. Noble, 12th National President, served as the 1st chair of the National Arts & Letters Commission while Sorors Leontyne Price and Lena Horne were appointed as co-chairs. The ultimate goal of the National Commission of Arts and Letters has been to boldly advance the black experience; highlighting the artistic contributions of African American people of the past and present and elevating them to public attention with particular emphasis on the positive roles of Black women.

The North Dallas Alumnae Chapter Arts and Letter Committee is committed to this same purpose and mission. Our programming promotes awareness and appreciation of different art forms, facilitates skill development in the areas of arts advocacy, and fosters cultural enrichment and creativity. Some of our programs include:

  • Annual Emerging Artists Showcase
  • Delta Authors On Tour
  • Delta Reads Book Club
  • DSTv
  • Delta Red Carpet Events
  • Red Elephant Storytime
  • Support of Local Artists
  • Support of Local Art Venues & Theaters
